The Spirit of Youth Association is a non-profit organization partnering with The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to implement a project for improving the livelihoods of the garbage collectors communities in Cairo through organizing, institutionalizing and upgrading the traditional waste sector. Our mission is to integrate the informal waste collectors in Cairo into a formal city wide collection system, raise capacities of the garbage collectors (Zabbaleen) communities to organize and represent their own interests, raise capacities of the garbage collectors community members to engage in successful recycling business activities, and finally achieve a city wide implementation of Source Segregation of household and institution waste into 2 streams: organic and non organic, which we believe are key conditions for the development of Egypts Solid Waste Management System environmentally and economically.
Position Description:
The Awareness Raising & Communications Managers responsibilities are to:
· Design, implement and manage the city wide awareness raising campaign for Source Segregation targeting institutions and residents of different Cairo districts. To be fully supported by 1 full time Administrative and Logistic Coordinator to track and manage the progress of the project, and a Public Awareness Team consisting of 30 persons.
· Design, implement and manage the awareness raising activities among the garbage collectors through the support of Consultants.
· Monitor and manage the finances of the communications component.
· Work with the Project Director on integrating with stakeholders in the project such as the Greater Cairo governorates departments, industries, municipalities and the civil societies sector.
· Manage the PR and media communications focusing on the importance of Source Segregation of waste and proper Electronic Waste (eWaste) Management. Ability to produce professional press releases and accurately represent project news and to keep an updated, accurate database of contacts of partners, stakeholders and service providers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Strong Communication skills (preferably with an experience of running advocacy campaigns) preferably in the field of Environmental development.
· Strong people management and team building skills with the ability to deal with a variety of personalities and assign roles and responsibilities efficiently.
· Ability to manage the production of communications materials and outsource design and production services.
· Managerial team player spirit with the ability to work with independence taking initiative as required.
· Strong communications and presentation skills in Arabic and English.
· Ability to manage time effectively.
· Strong skills in the Microsoft Office suite.
Educational and professional requirements:
· A university degree in Communications, International Development or Public Relations.
· 3-5 Years of professional experience with strong communications abilities (Not necessarily in waste management but such an experience would be a strong asset).
· Ability to provide a portfolio or similar presentation of previous work in the field would be an asset.
